What Workshops Do We Offer?

1
Graphic Score
This workshop is aimed to promote musical creativity and engagement in groups of non-musicians through the use of graphic scores. Graphic scores are excellent ways to teach fundamental compositional techniques, encourage musical exploration, and promote tactile creativity. This workshop will introduce participants to a variety of instruments, sounds, and non-notational compositional techniques and then guide them each through the process of creating a graphic composition.
2
Music Fundamentals
This workshop is aimed to introduce participants to musical fundamentals (ensemble, timbre, dynamics, articulation..) through activities that are designed for those without traditional musical training or instruments. This session is designed to engage participants creatively and musically, enforcing the idea that the fundamentals of music are accessible to all.
3
Found Instrument
This workshop aims to foster musical creativity and show that music can be created in a variety of ways- not just with traditional instruments. Participants will explore songs that use found object instrumentation, experiment with creating their own grooves using found objects, and craft a performance of their own. This session is designed to reinforce the idea that musicality is an innate characteristic in everyone, and that it can be expressed in a variety of accessible ways.
4
Creativity Through Writing
This workshop aims to encourage participants to express their creativity through writing, guided by a series of introductory activities that culminate with a written piece. This piece can either influence later works (such as graphic scores), or act as a stand alone piece of writing.
5
Visual Art - Patterns, Colors and Textures
This workshop aims to explore the fundamentals of visual art, encouraging participants to explore expression through a visual medium. Participants will engage with a variety of activities that introduce them to the building blocks of visual art such as color, line, shape, texture, and composition. In learning these art fundamentals, participants will not only have the opportunity to create but will gain an understanding of how to bring their ideas to life.
6
Rhythm Within Us
This workshop aims to help participants see that our bodies are rhythmic by design, and that the music we love reflects a natural process of rhythm that all living things can relate to. Our very heartbeats teach us how to drum, our steps keep us balanced, and so many art forms from music to dance reflect our bodies’ natural cadence.
